The “RainCatcher” Studio – Designing a Place-Based Artists’ Community
for the Sustainable Arts Society in Blue Ridge, Georgia
The “RainCatcher” Studio was designed for the Sustainable Arts Society located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of Blue Ridge, Georgia. The Proposal calls for six individual artists’ residences and studios including an accessible residence with ramped access to all studio environs. The project takes advantage of the area’s unique rural setting by offering a variety of sustainable features such as natural ventilation, active and passive solar energy, and water harvesting. The name “RainCatcher” is derived from the project’s building form which is contoured to harvest rain water.
